Accounting to aquariums
For more than 30 years, aquariums have been a part of my life. What started as a hobby became a lifelong passion, particularly planted aquariums and the challenge of creating living ecosystems that feel like another world.
For 20 years my professional life was spent in accounting, but outside of work I was always drawn back to aquariums, experimenting, learning, designing and asking myself what was possible.
Over the years I learnt how to create and maintain living ecosystems, from small filterless aquariums right up to large, automated, high tech installations. No matter the scale, I've always wanted the same thing, an aquarium that feels lush, natural and alive.
More than a hobby
Four years ago I posted my first aquarium on Instagram. People began reaching out from around the world, asking me to create aquariums for their homes, businesses and workplaces. Today the Qball Aquatics community has grown to more than half a million people across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and that support gave me the chance to turn my passion into my career.
Creating little worlds
My work is inspired by our natural longing to connect with nature. I want my aquariums to do more than look beautiful, to spark curiosity and a sense of escape, little living worlds that offer a moment of calm from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
After so many years in the corporate world, I'm incredibly grateful to be chasing a different kind of dream, one built around nature, creativity and a passion I've carried for more than three decades.
